On Saturday, June 27th, the world will be celebrating International Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Day ("MSME") to raise public awareness of the contribution these businesses make to the backbone of all economies. These are businesses that employ less than 250 people and unsurprisingly, make up the majority of businesses in Bermuda. These are the businesses we all use regularly and are the ones that deliver your groceries, do your nails, clean your house, care for your kids and take care of your plumbing issues. They are also the businesses that are employing thousands of Bermudians and providing jobs to those who may not be qualified to work in large corporations and would otherwise be unemployed. If Covid-19 has shown us anything, it's clear that these businesses are essential to many of our every day needs and without them, our livelihoods are directly impacted. Sustainable development of Bermuda relies on existing and emerging small businesses to prosper and thrive and MSME day is all about recognizing their importance and actively supporting by spending local!
The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation ('BEDC') is leading Bermuda's efforts to celebrate MSME Day and is encouraging residents to shop local and share their local NABs on social media. Raising awareness of the awesome selection of stores and products available locally will inspire others to get out and support and as part of these efforts we are highlighting 10 local stores we all need to get to know better!
